Front springs — replacement and refitting

Replacement procedure and time: front spring replacement is straightforward — about 40 minutes per spring, requiring full strut removal. The critical step is reinstalling per the alignment marks. The main difficulty reported is procuring quality spring clamps/compressors (described as "problematic to find") — the left spring may need 4 clamps and a second technician's help, while the right side typically needs only 2 clamps. DIY is possible with the proper tools and experience, but professionals recommend a service visit given the safety risk of stored spring force 1.

Torn damper protective boot causes spring damage (June 2025): a torn shock-absorber protective boot (пыльник амортизатора) lets water into the strut and can bend/damage the spring underneath it. Repair procedure reported step by step: fully unscrew the strut rod nut; jack the vehicle so the wheel is just barely off the ground; jack it a little further to keep the spring under tension; slowly extend the rod; quickly slide the torn boot off the rod; work the boot out from between the spring coils; fit the new boot; release the rod; lower the vehicle; reinstall the nut. One owner at 91,000 km found a second-coil fracture caused by this failure mode and bought two replacement springs from KitZap at 2,800 RUB (RU market, June 2025) each (as of 2025-06-03) 234567.

Single broken front spring — pair-replacement recommendation (May 2024): one owner reported the front-right spring snapped 1.5 coils from the top; the car was still driveable (no clunking, nothing felt over bumps) but the break was noticed while changing tires. Community recommendation: if buying new springs, replace the pair together to keep ride height balanced, though a used/refurbished single spring can be sourced and fitted alone if cost is the priority. Installation reported as straightforward, with the main difficulty being that the spring compressor bites tightly during installation — one owner who has done the swap several times still finds it tight going onto the strut. Reinstalling a spring after accidentally releasing it (guide): if the horizontal bolt that secures the strut to the lower control arm is accidentally removed and the compressed spring pops free/relaxes, it can be reseated without a spring compressor: place a jack under the brake disc (hub) and push down to compress the suspension, then continue jacking to draw the lower control arm upward — the spring typically re-seats into position by hand once the arm is raised enough. An alternative variant of the same technique is to also jack up the opposite wheel, which makes realignment easier 15161718192021.
