Steering wheel spline realignment after removal
Tags: #steering-wheel
The steering wheel attaches to the steering column via a splined connection. When it has been removed for panel work (e.g. dashboard/airbag service), it can be repositioned on the splines if it comes back on misaligned. The wheel should be properly centered before final fastening. This is treated as part of the same overall process as wheel alignment — the alignment shop straightens the steering wheel first, then sets the alignment angles from the table relative to that centered position; if nothing was disturbed underneath the car, the wheel simply unscrews and can be reseated on the splines in the correct position 123.
