TPMS sensor cloning when installing aftermarket wheels

Prices and suppliers on this page are Russian-market (RUB, at the dates shown). Verify locally before relying on them in Syria.

When installing aftermarket wheels, the TPMS (tire pressure sensor) signals need to be cloned/reprogrammed to match the new wheel positions — otherwise the system will not correctly report pressure per position. This requires a specialized programming tool that ordinary shops do not have. Tire shops that offer sensor programming as a service (in addition to tire sales and installation) carry the needed equipment. The procedure is relatively quick — reported as typically under 1 hour 12.

Sensor part numbers, failure rate, and pricing: OEM TPMS sensor part numbers differ by body style — 5GA-prefix for pre-facelift, 5BA037973 for post-facelift (restyle) X80s; the two are not interchangeable, so confirm which generation your car is before ordering. OEM sensors reportedly fail frequently. Universal aftermarket TPMS sensors are a common alternative, but still require the same programming/registration step after installation, at roughly 200 RUB (RU market, August 2025) per sensor charged by service shops. Reported OEM sensor pricing is around 2,500 RUB (RU market, August 2025) each, with installation/programming adding about 200 RUB per wheel 3.

Battery swap doesn't always fix a dead sensor: replacing just the TPMS sensor's battery does not always restore function. If the sensor still fails to register after a battery change and a polarity check, the sensor's internal circuit itself has likely failed — the whole sensor needs replacing, not just the battery 4567.

Cross-platform part number and clone sensors: OEM sensor part number 5BA037973 was confirmed by an owner to fit not only the X80 but also the related FAW B50, B70, B90, and X40 models. Aftermarket clone/compatible sensors (e.g. Autel-brand) are an alternative but may require their sensor ID to be cloned from the original before they will register correctly 891011.

Persistent/inconsistent TPMS warning light — no confirmed fix: a recurring problem where the tire-pressure warning light appears and disappears inconsistently, with no clear specification found in the owner's documentation for the correct target pressure. Trial and error reported by one owner: 2.2 BAR gives a softer ride; different pressures still trigger intermittent warnings; resetting the warning via the menu does not resolve the underlying inconsistency. Likely cause is sensor calibration or an intermittent contact issue, but no owner in this thread found a definitive fix or the correct factory pressure spec for their car 1213.
