Prices and suppliers on this page are Russian-market (RUB, at the dates shown). Verify locally before relying on them in Syria.

Cross-fit: Mazda 6 GG/GJ/GL (2002-2007, generation 1) and Atenza (2002-2007, generation 1) upper control arms fit the X80. Critical detail: the arm's rod thickness must be ≥13.5mm for proper support — anything thinner is poor quality 1. A separate, low-confidence report says upper arms from Mazda 6 GG were investigated in general but no fitment was confirmed in that thread; treat as unverified pending an in-person dismantler check 2.

Squeak diagnosis: a squeak felt/heard through the steering column when hand pressure is applied to the upper arm indicates worn silentbloc bushings. Spraying silicone on the bushings and observing whether the sound disappears confirms the diagnosis 3. The squeak typically first appears around 80,000–86,000 km 4.

Repair options: - Bushings only: ~700–800 RUB (RU market, September 2024) each plus labor — cheaper but reported as having questionable longevity 3. - Full arm replacement: preferred by most contributors. Even a higher-quality arm's ball joint may fail after 35,000–40,000 km if it is not genuine OEM; investing in genuine OEM arms (7,000–8,000 RUB, RU market, September 2024) avoids repeating the replacement every ~35k km 3. - If the ball joint is still functional, replacing only the sileblock bushings is presented as far cheaper than a full arm — Mazda upper arms with integrated ball joints do not mount on the X80, but sileblocks (bushings) taken from other vehicles reportedly can fit; a diagnostic check is recommended before choosing between the two paths 5. - Silentblock-only replacement using Stellox 7701133SX bushings (fits both Besturn B50 and X80): two silentblocks per arm, can be pressed in by hand with no special tools; ~500 RUB (RU market, November 2024) per piece 6.

Part numbers: FAW OEM upper arms 5CA034250 (left) / 5CA034200 (right). Mazda 6 GG (2002-2007) cross-fit alternative: CQ0253R, ~4,500 RUB (RU market, October 2024) on Drom. AVT-brand alternative: SH31031 (left) / SH31030 (right), 2,107 RUB (RU market, October 2024) each. Genuine FAW parts derive from the licensed Mazda design; branded "Mazda"-labelled alternatives on the market are often actually Chinese-manufactured 78.

Recommended/avoided brands: Mazda-branded arms (durable seals) and FEBI (good reputation) are recommended. Avoid "JD Just Drive" — one owner had both the bushings and ball joint fail at only 15,000 km. Note Mazda 6's ball joint diameter differs from the X80's, so Mazda 6 ball-joint parts do not cross-fit even though the arm itself does. While replacing the upper arm, always inspect the front coil springs for cracks — spring failure can go unnoticed 9.

Disagreement on subframe removal: one owner (Сергей Арапкин) reports the arm could not be replaced without removing the subframe; others (e.g. Василий Егоров) report successful replacement without subframe removal when using the correct jacking technique 910.

Rubber vibration damper on the arm: some X80 upper control arms are fitted with a dynamic vibration damper (динамический виброгаситель) — a rubber-bushed sleeve mounted on the arm. It is not present on OEM/original arms but appears on some aftermarket units (e.g. Mazda-sourced arms), and points downward when correctly assembled. Function: dampens suspension vibration and impacts; it is not essential to operation and can be removed if desired. Community sources debate its exact purpose — some describe it as a bump stop, others as a pure vibration absorber 111213.

Detailed Mazda 6gg fitment and part numbers: upper control arm assemblies from the Mazda 6gg (generations GG/GH) fit the X80 front suspension. OEM is generally preferred over the Mazda part — one installer reported a Mazda analog "didn't work" for their case, though the specifics were unclear. A confirmed Mazda-compatible option is the Stellox brand 57-71079a-sx (right upper arm for Mazda 6 gg/gy, 2002+), available on Ozon for ~1,215 RUB (RU market, April 2025), installs in about 30 minutes, and is described as good quality by the installer. For the left arm, the part number differs only in the last digit (78 instead of 79), easy to identify in parts catalogs 1415.

Disagreement — does the upper arm affect toe-in? After replacing the upper control arm, one owner's toe-in angle shifted unexpectedly (a 48-minute change) even though the vehicle was rocked and re-checked during alignment. Community consensus is that upper ball joints/control arms should not theoretically affect toe-in (wheel convergence), but this owner's experience contradicts that — suggesting the shift may instead stem from prior impact/ accident history or a bent knuckle rather than the control arm replacement itself. Cross-reference: see the wheel alignment card for general alignment behavior and pricing 16.

Brand/price comparison (2025) — Stelox vs JD vs bushing-only: upper arm prices range 2,500–10,000 RUB (RU market, May 2025) depending on brand. Stelox held up well (5,000+ RUB (RU market, May 2025), verified past 5,000 km driven, durable construction) 17. JD was cheap (~2,500 RUB, RU market, May 2025) but failed at only 15,000 km, matching the earlier "JD Just Drive" warning above 18. If the shaft/ball joint is still good, some owners prefer replacing only the silentblock bushings (Masuma brand, ~1,000–1,200 RUB (RU market, May 2025) per piece) instead of the whole arm — this reportedly extends service life 50,000+ km. Once a silentblock fails badly, full-arm replacement is recommended over further bushing repair 1920.

Lubrication fix for clicking (not a bushing swap): metallic clicking from the front suspension over bumps can sometimes be resolved without replacing anything — by disassembling both upper control arms and lubricating all bolts with SHRb-4 grease. Owners who tried this reported the clicking/squeaking disappeared, and the arms did not need to be fully removed from the vehicle to do it 21.

Grinding/creaking distinguished from clicking — high-mileage bushing failure: a separate, distinct symptom — grinding or creaking noise specifically during turns/cornering (as opposed to the click/squeak covered above) — was traced to worn upper-arm silentblocks at around 100,000 km, not to broken springs or brake issues. The noise stopped after silentblock replacement, and the ride became noticeably more responsive. Note: brake-line routing rubbing against the body chassis can produce a similar sound and should be ruled out first 22.

Early creaking-over-speed-bump report — traced to upper arm silentblocks (May 2024): an early community report of a squeak/creak heard when driving over a speed bump on a pre-facelift car. Suggested first by the community as front-arm silentblocks, with silicone spray recommended as a first, temporary test 2324. The owner confirmed it sounded consistent with worn silentblocks 25; a separate contributor initially guessed stabilizer bushings instead, showing this symptom is commonly mixed up between the two sources 26. Resolution: another owner reports having the same issue and fixing it by replacing the upper front arm silentblocks — on the right side the old bushings had simply fallen out — after which the squeak disappeared 27.

Sourcing guidance — bushing-only vs. full arm, by cost (May 2024): when deciding whether to replace just the silentblock or the whole upper arm, the community's guidance is straightforward: base the decision on relative price, and if having the work done at an official/dealer service, clarify in advance whose part will be used and who performs the labor, since this affects both cost and warranty standing 2829.

Upper control-arm bushing — Tenacity AAMMA1017 (Nov 2025): a rubber upper control-arm (upper A-arm) bushing under part number Tenacity AAMMA1017 was purchased via Ozon; the buyer had not yet installed it due to cold weather at the time of reporting 30.

Upper control-arm bushings — Masuma RU496, dealer price comparison (Dec 2025): for the post-restyle X80, Masuma RU496 upper control-arm bushings (cross-compatible with other FAW models including the B50) are available via Ozon. For comparison, a dealer quoted 10,000 RUB (RU market, December 2025) in labor alone to replace 2 bushings, despite the car still being under manufacturer warranty (until 2028) 313233.

Upper control-arm silentblocks — received-parts photo verification: a community member who ordered silentblocks for the upper control arms shared photos of the received parts for a quick community fitment/spec sanity-check before installing 3435.

Ball joint failure timeline (Jan 2026): a separate owner reported an upper control-arm ball joint (described as "подкова"-shaped shear pins) failing again at only 25,000–27,000 km after a previous replacement — a much shorter interval than the 35,000+ km figures reported above. Linkx-brand replacement recommended, with 30,000+ km lifespan reported on that owner's vehicle 3637.

Squeak sounding "like a cart" (March 2026): a creaking/squeaking sound described as sounding like a horse-drawn cart (как телегу), especially over speed bumps and uneven surfaces, was again traced to worn upper control-arm ball joints. Two fix paths confirmed by this thread, matching the guidance above: (1) replace the entire upper control arm (complete rod with integrated ball joint), or (2) a more cost-effective route — buy a ball joint repair/press kit and press new ball joints into the existing arms. Replace both left and right as a pair 38394041.

Upper control arm sway-bar ball joints fell out of their bushings during a front spring job (62,000 km): during a front spring replacement at 62,000 km (spring broken on one side), the upper control arm's sway-bar ball joints simply fell out of their bushings when the arm was disturbed — they required re-pressing. The ball joints themselves were still serviceable at that point (rated to last to roughly 100,000 km), but the upper control arm showed rust. See the front springs card for the full spring-failure context; recommendation there was to replace dampers and ball joints together around 100,000 km, since re-pressed ball-joint boots may only last another 30,000–40,000 km 42434445464748.

Saiblocks on upper control arms fail early — one case at 50,000 km: rubber bushings ("saiblocks"/сайлентблоки) on the upper suspension control arms frequently fail, with one owner reporting failure as early as 50,000 km. Symptoms: squeaking noise and the bushing separating from its sleeve. This condition often requires replacement before 100,000 km — earlier than the general wear pattern might suggest. Often accompanied by stabilizer bushing squeak; see the stabilizer bushings card 4950.

Upper control arm bushings — Tenacity AAMMA1017: another cross-brand bushing option for the front upper control arm: Tenacity AAMMA1017. Install time reported at 10–30 minutes depending on skill and tooling; a press/orifice tool is needed, and one owner found one of the two bushings awkward to extract because of its mounting angle 51.

Upper control-arm assemblies and ball joints — SH vs. Miles, and a disagreement on SH longevity: complete upper control-arm assemblies (arm + ball joint) are commonly sourced under the SH brand, and Miles is used as an alternative. Disagreement: one owner's SH ball joints started knocking after roughly a year/~15,000 km, and they switched to Miles to see if it does better; another contributor pushes back, noting that Mazda owners running SH generally don't report complaints — so results may vary by batch/installer rather than being a blanket SH quality issue. If the original ball joint is still good, the cheaper fix is just re-pressing the bushings rather than buying a whole new arm assembly; the job can be done without removing the strut, in roughly the same 10–30 minute window as above 525354.

Upper control arm — no built-in travel limiters on X80, unlike some Mazda variants: the X80 upper control arm connects the strut to the frame via a ball joint with a limited range of motion, but — unlike some Mazda 6 variants — the X80's design has no built-in upper suspension-travel limiters/stops, which allows more compression/ extension travel than a Mazda-spec arm would. Practical consequence: when fitting wider springs (e.g. CX-5-sourced, see the rear springs card) or lift spacers, camber/ caster geometry shifts more than expected — always recheck alignment after this kind of modification 5556.

Upper front control arm — FAW part numbers: left upper front control arm is FAW part FC034250 (also listed as 5CA034250); right upper front control arm is FC034200 (also listed as 5CA034200). Both available from the kitzapchasti.ru catalog 5758.

Bushing replacement — dealer myth vs. community reality (71,000 km wear report): one owner (Денис З) reported the upper front control-arm bushings ("сайленты") worn out to nothing at 71,000 km; the official dealer told him bushings can only be replaced together with the whole arm assembly (2,500–5,000 RUB (RU market, August 2024) per arm + ~13,000 RUB labor per side, plus a wheel alignment). The community pushed back hard on this: bushings can be pressed out and replaced separately, and the ball joint is also sold separately — one contributor had done exactly this himself, replacing everything except the ball joint on his own arms 596061. A Masuma-brand replacement bushing was linked as one sourcing option 62. Separately, another owner (SKAtality) said no wheel alignment is required after an upper-arm bushing replacement — contradicting the dealer's claim that one is needed 6364.

Replacement procedure — no full suspension teardown needed: to replace the upper control arm (рычаг) itself, it is not necessary to remove the entire suspension: unscrew the stabilizer-bar link stud, the shock-absorber fork bolt, and the shock-absorber top mount, then remove and replace the arm and reassemble in reverse order. Jack the car up at the brake-disc rotor to get clearance for reinserting the bolt through the shock fork and arm. Reported total time, including breaks, about one hour in a simple driveway setting — no lift or special tools required 65.

Sealantblock (bushing) count — 4 total on the upper front arms: the front upper suspension control arms have 4 bushings total (2 per side), and community advice is to replace them as a full set rather than one at a time; check ball-joint condition at the same time, since a complete replacement kit can sometimes work out more economical than buying individual parts 666768.

Upper control arm alternatives — Mazda 6, thicker metal, ~2,700 RUB (RU market, as of November 2025): Mazda 6 upper control-arm assemblies (including bushings) fit the X80 and are widely available from multiple retailers. One owner who fitted a Mazda 6 arm reported its metal is noticeably thicker/more robust than the FAW-OEM arm. Reported cost: ~2,700 RUB (RU market, November 2025), ordered from Ozon 6970. A separate owner who bought a Mazda 6 arm assembly (Ozon, ~2,700 RUB, RU market, December 2025) confirmed direct fitment with no modification, alongside also sourcing Mazda-compatible stabilizer links that happened to be in stock locally 71.

Oct 2026 update — upper arm bushings: press, sizes and tightening; lifetime reports. Without a press, one owner noted it used to be cheaper to replace the whole upper arm assembly than to swap the bushings (silent blocks, сайлентблоки) 72. Arсhi 77 advises not to buy the cheapest and to make sure the sizes match exactly — a difference of a couple of millimetres in diameter means they will not fit, so order from several brands at once; he also stresses that the bolts should be tightened with the car standing on its wheels, i.e. with the bushings under working load, so they last 7374.

Lifetime reports differ widely. Arсhi 77 says his silent blocks are fine at about 170,000 km, that front-arm bushings seem to last longest in his view, and that he ignored a master's advice to replace them at 50,000 km ("pseudo-masters") 757677. Victor's upper silent blocks began to squeak from about 50,000 km and were later found torn 78.
